There are many places in life that need to use motors, brushless outer rotor motors on skateboards, brushed motors on cars, worm gear motors on industrial equipment, high-precision DC motors on robot arms, etc., each Products or each industry have different performance and appearance requirements for motors (performance, external dimensions, housing materials...).
Today, we will focus on two common materials for the casing of DC motors: zinc alloy materials and aluminum alloy materials;
Advantages of using zinc alloy material for high torque DC motor housing:
Good casting performance, it can die-cast precision parts with complex shapes and thin walls, and the surface of the castings is smooth.
Various surface treatments are available. For example: electroplating, spraying, painting, polishing, grinding, etc.
It does not absorb iron, corrode pressure, and does not stick to molds during melting and die casting.
It has good mechanical properties and wear resistance at room temperature.
Low melting point. 385°C melting, easy to die casting.
The advantages of using aluminum alloy for the motor housing:
The density is very small. The density of aluminum alloy is close to 2.7g, which is about 1/3 of iron or copper.
Aluminum alloy has high strength. It will increase after cold working. Heat treatment is strengthening other grades of aluminum alloys.
Good electrical and thermal conductivity. Aluminum is second only to silver, copper and gold in electrical and thermal conductivity.
Good corrosion resistance.
Easy to process. After adding certain alloying elements, cast aluminum alloys with good casting properties or deformed aluminum alloys with good workability can be obtained.
The difference between zinc alloy and aluminum alloy is as follows:
Choosing the right alloy to use in a motor housing for your motor project is not always easy.
The experienced team of BG MOTOR engineers will evaluate the material requirements your motor needs to help you decide which alloy is best for your application to achieve the desired results for your motor!
